Dear Families,
Recently, your fifth (and some fourth) grade students participated in
Oshkosh Schools Sail Week at Menominee Park Beach! We hope that the
experience was as fun and meaningful for them as it was for us. If your or
your student is interested in continuing with sailing, here are some
opportunities in our area:
Oshkosh Yacht Club Sailing SchoolCertified Sailing instructors provide an on-the-water basic sailing experience. Classes meet twice weekly during June and July. Safety, boat handling, and the enjoyment of sailing as a lifetime sport, are emphasized. Classes are offered based on skill level and age: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The youth curriculum is for children who have completed the second grade through age thirteen. A program for older teens is also available. Students sail International Class Optimist dinghies which are specifically designed to provide a stable learning platform for beginners. Classes begin within the safe confines of the harbor at The Waters and progress to sailing on the lake with an introduction to basic racing techniques. All classes are open to the public and OYC membership is not required.
